UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT THE AMERICAN RED CROSS SOUTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER
Giant Eagle supermarkets partner with Red Cross to offer first aid kits
PITTSBURGH (May 23, 2005) – American Red Cross first aid kits are now available for purchase at 150 Giant Eagle supermarket locations. Proceeds from the kits, which will be available at special Red Cross displays near the health and beauty care department, will benefit the local Southwestern Pennsylvania Red Cross and enable the chapter to continue helping local residents to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
There are four different first aid kits available, including a personal first aid kit, a pocket-size first aid kit, an auto first aid kit and a safety tube that can be secured under a desk or counter in an office or workspace. Designed to assist individuals responding to a variety of emergencies, the first aid kits range from $5.99 - $19.99 and will offer items such as bandages, gauze, safety pins, tweezers, latex gloves, a flashlight with batteries, a 12-hour light stick, a dust mask and a whistle.
“With nearly 400 kits already sold, this partnership’s success is very encouraging,” said Tim Tassone, CEO of the Red Cross. “We’re pleased to offer the various first aid kits for purchase as another opportunity for area residents to help their local Red Cross that’s different from a straight donation.”
“We are dedicated to helping our customers live healthier and safer overall lifestyles,” said Giant Eagle Marketing Manager of Community Relations Tina Thomson. “These kits will not only help in keeping safe our customers but will also benefit the thousands of other local citizens that receive the ongoing assistance of the American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter.”
An integral player in community disaster relief, the American Red Cross is at the scene when emergencies occur---from fires to floods and from individuals to entire communities---providing for immediate needs such as food, shelter and clothing. In addition to disaster relief, the Red Cross provides key information in disaster preparedness and first aid safety.
