Sailboarding and Windsurfing Safety

Use the following safety tips to keep yourself safe while sailboarind or windsurfing:

  • Learn to swim.

  • Always wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

  • Check that your equipment is in proper working order.

  • Beginners should stay in enclosed waters.

  • Wear a wet suit in cold water to prevent hypothermia.

  • Make sure you are in good physical condition.

  • Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

  • Take windsurfing lessons from a qualified instructor.

  • Never sail alone.

  • Always wear a buoyancy aid.

  • Avoid sailing in areas with swimmers.

  • Never sail in restricted areas.

  • Avoid collisions with others windsurfers and sailboarders.

  • Always stay with your board.

  • Know local weather conditions and avoid participating in these sports during storms or other hazardous conditions.
